Introduction
Being one of the earliest key laboratories approve and established by SOA, Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences was established in 1997. Focusing on meeting the great demands of our country to safeguard maritime rights and interests, explore submarine resources and develop deep-sea detecting technology. In front of international competition, the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences carried out innovative researches based on basic research for application and has become the window and carrier for submarine scientific exchanges and researches.
Its research areas cover China’s marginal seas, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and Polar Regions. Being equipped with advanced devices for sea bottom survey and testing studies, researchers in this laboratory have the ability to independently investigate submarine topography, integrated geophysics, submarine earthquake, and comprehensive geological and sediment environment. Six specialized laboratories were established for rock, sedimentation and isotope analysis, for technology research and development and for interpretation of sediment acoustics and comprehensive geophysics, thus forming our own distinctive features in these areas.
